Scope of machine refurbishment & CNC retrofit work

A full machine refurbishment & CNC retrofit of a Boehringer VDF250C-U CNC Lathe.

The machine refurbishment included completely re-engineering the Spindle drive (i.e. removal of the 3-speed gearbox and fitting a newly designed 2-speed belt drive arrangement), refurbishment of axis drive ballscrews, full refurbishment of the Spindle including new spindle bearings, full refurbishment of the Vacuum Chuck, Turret, Tailstock, Swarf Conveyor & Guarding System; in addition, all hydraulics & lubrication systems were replaced with new.

The CNC retrofit comprised fitting of a new Siemens 840D Control, new DC Spindle Drive, new Digital Axis Servo Drives, a new electrical cabinet complete with all new control gear and a complete machine re-wire. In addition, new Renishaw Tool Probing & Component Inspection Probing systems were added to the machine.

This machine was rebuilt to an extremely high tolerance and now produces components to within
8 microns, for the defence industry.
