Scope of CNC retrofit work

A full CNC retrofit of a Giddings & Lewis type PC40 Horizontal Borer.

Despite being more than 20 years old, this machine was in extremely good mechanical condition; as such no remedial mechanical refurbishment work was required, other than a general refurbishment of the hydraulic power unit.

Electrically, the machine was retrofitted with a Heidenhain iTNC530 Control, new AC brushless Axis Servo Drives, a new electrical cabinet complete with all new control gear and completely re-wired. 

In addition, the machine was fitted with a Heidenhain TS220 Component Inspection Probing System

Comments

This was the first of three orders that EES received in a short space of time to CNC Retrofit G & L PC40 Borers; the other two being fitted with Siemens 840D Controls.

The unique feature of this particular project is that the machine is fitted with the new Z/W Tracking Feature; a special software function developed in conjunction with Heidenhain UK.
