Scope of refurbishment & CNC retrofit work

A partial machine refurbishment and full CNC/electrical retrofit of a Heald MRG-1 Grinder.

Despite being more than 20 years old, this machine was in extremely good mechanical condition, as such the refurbishment work carried out was limited to inspect Machine Slides and re-set hydrostatics, replace linear bearings as required, refurbish Workhead & Spindle (including magnetic chuck), refurbish Workhead Pivot, fit all new pneumatics, overhaul lubrication & coolant systems. In addition, the machine was fitted with a complete new Marposs E9 In-process Gauging System.

Electrically, the machine was retrofitted with a Control Techniques "Trio" Motion Controller, new Spindle Inverter Drives (Workhead & Grinding Spindle), new Axis Servo Drives, a new electrical cabinet complete with all new control gear and completely re-wired.
