A massive project that invloved the sourcing of two identical Marwin Alumax Machines, dismantling at the original user site and re-installation in our clients works; at the same time the two machines were joined together to produce one 40,000mm Bed Machine.
The machine is required to 'Prep' machine Aircraft Stringers up to 22m long; as part of the requirement a new high power (40Kw), low speed (2000rpm), Milling Head was designed, manufactured and fitted to accomodate special 350mm Cutters. This Head being used to 'prep' machine the back of the Stringers, whilst the existing, high speed, Heads are used for all profile machining.
The mechanical refurbishment included regrinding of all X axis Slides and replacement of the linear tychoway bearings; the Y & Z ballscrews were refurbished and all lubrication systems replaced.
Electrically, both Gantrys have been retrofitted with new Heidenhain iTNC530 Controls, new electrical cabinets complete with all new control gear and completely re-wired.
Comments
A highly succesful project; the machine is the longest Stringer production machine in the UK and more importantly, has reduced the cycle time, for Stringer 'Prep' work from over 4 hours to under 35 minutes.
