Scope of machine refurbishment & CNC retrofit work
A full machine refurbishment & CNC Retrofit of a Webster & Bennett 48" ERNC Vertical Borer.
The mechanical refurbishment included regrinding of all slideways, replacement of axis drive ballscrews & anchor bearings, replacement of the main Timken table bearings, rebuild of the table drive gearbox, replacement of hydraulic systems & counterbalance and replacement of all lubrication systems. In addition, the machine has been fitted with a new totally enclosed & interlocked Operator Guarding System and a new Swarf Conveyor.
Electrically, the machine was retrofitted with a new Siemens 840D Control, new DC Spindle Motor & Drive, new Siemens Digital Axis Servo Motors & Drives, a new electrical cabinet complete with all new control gear and completely re-wired.
Comments
The machine was re-engineered to accept a 10 Station Automatic Toolchanger; this included:
• Re-engineering of the Ram to incorporate a Spindle & Power Drawbar Arrangement.
• Design, manufacture and fitting of a new, Rail mounted, disc type, 10 Station Tool Magazine.
The machine was rebuilt as part of our ongoing "stock rebuild" programme; on completion of the rebuild, the machine was sold to a major UK Aerospace Subcontractor and now produces high precision rings for Aircraft Engines.
